“Be afraid”, he says…because that’s the only way his offer to protect you makes any sense. Once you get used to his protection, I’ll bet he’ll find a way to make you pay for it…you know, no different than when the gangs collect “protection” from the local merchants.

This is some cool creative problem solving that works without a real downside. We need more solutions that have no downside…or at least have downsides that aren’t direct steps toward disaster. Or we could keep burning fossil fuels when we know we really shouldn’t. We can build more nuclear plants in seismically hyperactive areas, and scar the land with pipelines that eventually start leaking and destroying natural fresh water aquifers. While we’re at it, let’s pump more toxic chemicals into the ground at high pressure to get those fuels out…that way we can credit our ingenuity and genius for polluting the aquifers and creating our own earthquakes and sinkholes, all in one greedy shot. Makes so much more sense than free power and clean water from the sun.

It’s unconstitutional to use federal funds to force local agencies to cooperate with the federal government, and yet, it’s been done many times. Increase the speed limit above Federal 55?…lose funding. Don’t want to comply with #NoChildLeftBehind?…lose funding. The list of extortions that the Federal Government tries to manipulate state policy with is endless.
That’s because the tax system is backwards. We should pay ALL our taxes to the most LOCAL authority. State governments should have to get funding from cities/towns. The Federal government should be lobbying state legislatures for funding, rather than the States having to negotiate to get money back from the Feds…money back from funds extorted from the citizens of those States by Federal Taxation.
Think about how much waste could be trimmed if the Federal Government had to request funding for EVERYTHING from the States. Who in turn had to get their funding from the town or city which you live in. Where you get to vote on how much your share should be.
Think about it. Now, think about it again.
