Why is this how we measure our candidates popularity? Our whole system is set up to ensure that MONEY and not VOTES selects the candidates. It does so by using money to rank the candidates, and measure their relative appeal. This way, the general public can use the resulting polls, skewed largely by the media and money in this way, to help choose their horse.
Voting along with results of respected polling gives the voter a relative confidence of “picking a winner”. Nobody wants to vote for a loser. Well, at least it should be someone they can proudly display their losing bumper sticker for months after the election, right?
The REAL point, that we aren’t supposed to figure out, is that the choices are pre-selected by big money, so no matter which choice you make, you are voting for the status quo: Where the richest among us are not really among us because they are SO much wealthier than the average. Like Cloud Minders in a society of Troglodytes.
To put it simply: If we Troglodytes only get to vote for the candidates that please the Cloud Minders, how much of a voice do we really have? Especially when the Zenite Gas (in this case, the news) is being pumped into our homes via the TV and Interwebs, to help keep us clueless (while higher education becomes unaffordable without accruing huge debts, ensuring our indentured servitude to the system for years).
We should all stop huffing zenite & vote for real change. Campaign finance reform & term limits should be our highest priorities. Congress members should have to pay for their own health insurance and retirement like the majority of the rest of us.
If we take the money out of politics, and return our system to the vision the founders intended, one where the people have real choices, and not just choices that benefit the elite class, who would prefer you didn’t know were pulling ALL the strings for their own benefit. Vote to end this exploitation.
