Racism: Labels of Assumption

Racism isn’t the real problem, labels are. Don’t get me wrong, racism is a very real problem. I think we all need to practice anti-racism daily. But, that means finding the causes of racism, and effecting changes.

Because racism is more than just learned hatred. It’s about how we think. How we form our subjective opinions about the things we experience around us. That’s what needs to change. Because, one of our biggest problems is that, for some reason, we have the need to lump everything into a group of similar things, and then put a label on it.

When we label something, all objectivity goes out the window. Find an unlabeled jar of green, leafy material in your kitchen cupboard…you might draw the subjective opinion that it’s Oregano. Someone else might start looking for a bong to stuff it in. If there’s a label on it, your opinion doesn’t matter any more. Which is fine, until you open that mislabeled jar, and you smoke yourself into a huge headache instead of making spaghetti.

Objective thinking means overcoming the impulse to label everything, and instead letting everything label itself via discovery. Asking extra questions, rather than assuming the answers, based on labels that may or may not be fact. Observation, rather than intervention. Considering infinite possibilities of our futures, rather than just using past experiences to guide our present actions.

Objective thinking means that everyone gets the benefit of the doubt. Each person we meet becomes an opportunity to grow, rather than someone you can trust, or someone you should fear. Using our subjective opinions about events from our past should inform us in the present, but not control how we see unfamiliar experiences and new people in our lives.

Because a lot of times, we’ve got a mislabeled jar in the cupboard, and before making purple kush pizza for the family, maybe we should open the jar and give it a sniff. ~jg

Humanity First

Capitalism is survival of the fittest. Dog eat dog. Caveat emptor. Profits and power are the cornerstone of the elite class, a self made royalty in a society that measures value and worth by the dollar and acre.

In contrast, most of us ordinary people see the importance of the common good. We recognize the inherent value in taking care of everyone, not just the ones who would kill and eat everyone else in order to ensure their own survival. As human beings, adopting degrees of Socialism is the acknowledgement that we’ve transcended to those higher places. It’s evolution of the species, to a new place, where we learn take care of our own. ALL of them, even if they don’t look like us or speak our tongue.

Socialism doesn’t mean everyone gets an equal share, like in communism. Instead, socialism seeks to ensure that everyone gets an equal chance, and less lives are wasted. Even a capitalist should be able to grok the concept of less waste. Isn’t prevention of wasted human potential just as important as protecting human life itself?
Our society should be made up of haves and have-mores, instead of haves and have-nots. The rich can still get richer. They just can’t do it by exploiting people to the point of sickness, starvation and homelessness. THAT sounds like Humanism to me…and shouldn’t we ALL be humanists? #HumanityFirst ~jg

Problems Solved. Available for hire.

I solve problems. I believe have a solution to everything. It’s who I am at the core, I suppose. Please don’t judge me if I try to solve yours.

When I look at the absolute mess in Washington DC, I see problems that need solving. Unfortunately, politicians aren’t very good at solving problems…at least not without creating more problems. Bigger ones usually. Expensive ones, dangerous ones, that cost us all.

“The US Capitol stands for what We The People are willing to sacrifice for the greater good.” ~jg

To me, things seem simple. There are gray areas, but by and large, there are simple, obvious solutions to every problem we face. We know must face them, but thanks to our bullshit pay-to-play political system, we usually choose to wait until it’s a fucking emergency.

Because God forbid we take one unnecessary fucking penny of profits from our corporate overlords. The economy will come crashing down and everyone will lose their jobs, if Amazon stock doesn’t continue to rise.

Well, Bezos can blast himself into space and fucking stay there, as far as I’m concerned. He’s a fucking pirate. No one should make billions of dollars in a pandemic. Even if it’s not TAXABLE income (so it doesn’t really count anyway). Give it BACK!

“Bezos can blast himself into space and fucking stay there, as far as I’m concerned. He’s a fucking pirate.”

I truly believe we can solve all of our problems. But the American people need to become engaged in our government. The People should vote for Solutions, not for people who make those choices for us, based on bribes (that’s what political donations really are) from powerful people and businesses.

We can hold Congress accountable to the vote of the people on those ISSUES. Right now, career politicians only REALLY answer to the fat cats who bankroll their elite lifestyles, and pay for their manipulative political propaganda.

And…Oh yeah. We gotta stop electing lawyers and career politicians. Congress should be people like you and me, who serve a term or two and do the best job they can for ALL of the Country (not just their party). Then they go back to their lives as teachers, truck drivers, and chefs. Lawyers shouldn’t make laws. They can write the laws AFTER regular people tell them what we want the Law to MEAN.

Bottom Line? We’ll solve a fucktonne of problems with TWO easy fixes. Get rid of political contributions, and implement term limits for every elected office. Simple shit, man.

But what do I know. I’m just a guy on a couch. ~jg

The New Revolution

I sometimes talk about revolution in songs I write. Because I believe in revolution. I think revolution is essential to true growth and change. Revolution is the only way to bring about true change when roadblocks and obstacles to doing the right thing cannot be surmounted by other means.

Peaceful revolution is evolved revolution. The evolution of revolution. You know, for the digital post-modern age. Revolutions of course, can be violent as well, but we must not allow our primitive fears and emotional preservation to make that choice for us. Peaceful protest is always more effective than violent acts of revolt. Protests must never be allowed to become acts of terrorism.

Musician and Writer, Jamie Gray

Violence must always be a last resort; an act of self defense. If we expect the world to see us as legitimate leaders, they must see a new generation of Americans. Not the policies of our grandparents, that Trump used to spur division, fear and hate, but policies of a new era.

Policies that represent the 75% of America that are already woke to upholding the truths that we SAY we stand for. That each person is equal under law, and everyone gets an equal chance in America. That the rich, white minority are not more entitled to fair treatment and opportunity than the rest of low-to-middle income, multicultural America that we truly are.

We, Purple America, America of ALL races and creeds, cannot let a small number of outspoken, self-serving, partisan, faux-Christian assholes leave our national American dream of homogeny and harmony in tatters of tyranny and tragedy.

Socially Distanced Biden Inauguration featured thousands of flags instead of people.

Evil only wins in darkness, when good people say and do nothing to expose it or stop it. Speak up. Do something. Rebuilding together, once we purge our government of those who stood against America. All of them.

Trump again targets Fox: ‘They totally forgot who got them where there are’

#FoxNews is NOT News and should be banned from calling itself “News”.
OR… they COULD try standing up to Trump’s bullying and embrace actual journalism.
Time to choose.

Portland protesters are finding new ways to stand up to federal agents

“We came out here dressed in T-shirts and twirling Hula-Hoops and stuff, and they started gassing us, so we came back with respirators, and they started shooting us, so we came back with vests, and they started aiming for the head, so we started wearing helmets, and now they call us terrorists,” Mac Smiff, a local Black organizer in Portland, said. “Who’s escalating this? It’s not us.”

BP CEO Calls Plan to Lay Off 10,000 Workers the ‘Right Thing’

The RIGHT thing would be to strip executives of salary, bonuses and perks, using the money to keep as many jobs for as long as possible as fossil fuels are fizzling in favor of an actual future for humans…but it’s not as if anyone is living under delusions of oil companies, BP in particular, doing ‘the right thing’.

CNN reporters covering Minnesota riots arrested live on-air

I truly don’t understand what the fuck the MPD was thinking, arresting a CNN reporter, with valid ID, while broadcasting LIVE ON THE AIR. It’s clearly a First Amendment violation to arrest journalists who are fully cooperating while covering the protests. Given the track record of Minneapolis’ Finest with people of color, should we assume some racism here? Yup. That or Trumpian cops who want to punish ‘fake news CNN’?
Both maybe.

One Family, Out Of 88,000 – News & Guts Media

Mr. Trump wants us to think of them as numbers. Acceptable losses.
But these are PEOPLE. GOOD people, who didn’t ask for this suffering. Almost 90,000 American families are mourning the loss of loved ones, cherished humans. But our President doesn’t understand, empathize, or give a fuck. They are just bad numbers he doesn’t like.
Because for Donald Jerkoff Trump, it’s all about convincing you he’s doing a good job. As our friends, family and neighbors are taken away in body bags and unemployment is soaring, he’s leveraging PPE and Federal relief funding, playing state Governors against each other for political advantage.
Why? Because he doesn’t care about anyone, unless it benefits Trump & Associates. It’s not a win unless profits are made and/or favors are owed him. The Donald is not president of America, just the repulsive Don of the corporate interests he colludes with, and the 27% of the population that might vote for him again in November, most of them out of fear.
I’ve seen a bunch of corruption in the Oval office in my 50+ years as a thinking human. LBJ and the Vietnam war. The Nixon coverup. Iraq lies of Bush and Son and the whole Afghanistan mess they got us into. Reagan’s puppeteers, as he slept through much of his second term. The Clinton machine and the lives it destroyed.
A LOT of shit has gone down in the last half century. But never in my lifetime have we had a president with so little compassion for Americans and so much disdain for the rule of law, The Constitution…and common fucking decency. So little empathy, so much ego. And so easy to read…sometimes I wonder why ANYONE believes his cons. Is everyone blind, or just corrupt as fuck and complicit? Or just afraid? Trump lives on fear, and if you’re voting for him, he’s probably preying on yours.

Stephen Colbert points out Trump took swifter action to protect U.S. meat supply than human lives

Today, the death toll from #CoronaVirus in 2020 passed the number of Americans who died during the entire Vietnam conflict. Of course, President Trump still thinks he’s doing a GOOD job handling the crisis. Meanwhile, his ineptitude is glaring, only eclipsed by the obvious void of leadership from POTUS, as testing rollout is repeatedly botched, and STILL inadequate compared to most of the world.

To almost no one’s surprise, back in the Oval Office, it’s always someone else’s fault, right Donnie-Boy?

Except it isn’t, because when you are President, it is YOUR JOB to be responsible for the WHOLE country and ALL of the American People. I’d say, that with more than 1 million infected and over 58,000 dead, YOU sir are failing, and failing BIGLY.

Please stop sowing division and puking out political propaganda for ONE damn minute and get your shit together, dumbass. We’ve already lost much more than we needed, and YOU continually make things worse.

Naveen and Jamie’s 4/20 Wedding

So this happened. We broke quarantine for a few short minutes and got hitched!
We tried to live stream it, but alas the YouTube gods were not kind this day.
But, it wasn’t cold and it didn’t rain…and none of it’s ironic. None of it matters. Because none of it matters, right Naveen Alexandra ?
And you guys…YOU GUYS matter! Thanks to everybody who tried to attend…maybe we can try and catch up with you all later…have a virtual glass of wine together?
Big virtual hugs to all, from 6 feet and farther, wherever you may be!
