Black female scientist awarded $324,000 grant to research rape investigation methods

I’m not sure why it was essential to clarify that the researcher is black.
That she is Female is relevant. A woman researching rape investigation methods is reassuring. Women after all are the ones most affected by rape, and the methods for investigation and prosecution currently aren’t making prosecution of rape any easier. Kudos for the new female input.
But, the fact that she is black is non-essential, and quite honestly mentioning it borders on being racist. Is the author surprised that a black woman is qualified? Or are they just trying to be a cheerleader for black women in successful positions? What possible motivation do you have for pointing out that she is black? The only REAL story is that she is FEMALE. I mean…we can pretty much tell from the picture that she’s black, so…
