When I was a kid, Roberto Clemente was a personal hero. I was 10, I think, when he died, in the off season, on a relief mission to help disaster victims after an earthquake in Nicaragua. He was an amazing ball player, and an even more amazing human being. Role models like Clemente are few and far between these days, both in baseball and the human race generally.
I say retire #21 and honor a man as important to #MLB as he was to humanity.
